Terms of Service

Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using EasySplit ("the Service"), operated by EasySplit ("we," "us," or "our"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account, accessing, or using EasySplit, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the Service.

You must be at least 13 years old to use EasySplit. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this age requirement.

2. Description of Service

EasySplit is an expense-splitting application that allows users to:

  • Create groups and invite members to track shared expenses
  • Record, categorize, and split expenses among group members
  • Upload receipts for AI-powered parsing into expense drafts
  • Track balances and simplify debts within groups
  • Generate UPI payment links to settle balances
  • Receive email summaries and settlement reminders

EasySplit is a tracking and coordination tool. We do not process, hold, or transfer funds. All actual payments are made directly between users through their own UPI applications or other payment methods.

3. User Accounts

3.1 Registration

You must sign in using Google OAuth to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Google account. We are not liable for any loss arising from unauthorized use of your account.

3.2 Accurate Information

You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information when using the Service. Expense amounts, descriptions, and splits should reflect real transactions to the best of your knowledge.

3.3 One Account Per Person

Each individual may maintain only one EasySplit account. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent restrictions or manipulate group balances is prohibited.

4. User Responsibilities

When using EasySplit, you agree to:

  • Use the Service only for its intended purpose of tracking and splitting shared expenses
  • Ensure that expenses you add are legitimate and accurately reflect shared costs
  • Respect other group members and resolve disputes about expenses directly with them
  • Not share, transfer, or provide access to your account to any other person
  • Review AI-generated expense drafts from receipt scanning before confirming — you are responsible for the accuracy of confirmed expenses

5. Prohibited Use

You may not use EasySplit to:

  • Create fraudulent expenses or manipulate balances to deceive other users
  • Upload receipts, images, or content that is illegal, obscene, defamatory, or infringes on intellectual property rights
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' accounts, data, or our infrastructure
  • Use automated tools, bots, or scrapers to interact with the Service without our written consent
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service
  • Facilitate money laundering, tax evasion, or any other illegal financial activity
  • Send spam, unsolicited messages, or abuse the group invite system
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with any entity

6. AI Receipt Scanning

EasySplit offers AI-powered receipt scanning as an assistive feature. Important limitations:

  • AI-generated expense drafts are suggestions only and may contain errors in amounts, descriptions, or categorization
  • You must review and confirm every AI-generated draft before it becomes an expense
  • Receipt images are sent to OpenAI for processing, subject to OpenAI's terms of service and data usage policy
  • We are not responsible for inaccuracies in AI-parsed data that you confirm without review

7. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, code, features, logos, and content (excluding user-generated data), is owned by EasySplit and protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

You retain ownership of your expense data and uploaded content. By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and display your data solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you and your group members.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • EasySplit shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service
  • We are not responsible for any disputes between group members regarding expenses, payments, or balances
  • We are not liable for any financial losses resulting from incorrect expense entries, whether entered manually or generated by AI receipt parsing
  • Our total liability for any claims arising under these Terms shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or INR 1,000, whichever is greater

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that:

  • The Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free
  • AI receipt scanning will produce accurate or complete results in all cases
  • The balance calculations will be suitable as legal or financial records
  • The Service will meet your specific requirements or expectations

10. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India. Any disputes arising out of or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.

11. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and notify you through the app or via email.

Your continued use of EasySplit after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you disagree with the updated Terms, you should stop using the Service and delete your account.

12. Termination

You may terminate your account at any time by using the account deletion feature in the app or by visiting our account deletion page.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service immediately, without prior notice, if:

  • You breach any provision of these Terms
  • Your account is used for prohibited activities
  • We are required to do so by law or a valid legal order
  • We discontinue the Service (with reasonable notice where possible)

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Data deletion follows the timeline described in our Privacy Policy.

13. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. The invalid provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable.
